In 2014, one of the most exclusive distillers of premium bourbon whiskey, Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery, partnered with one of the biggest names in the cigar industry, Drew Estate. The initial release was a rare barrel-aged cigar that was only available online and quickly sold out. With such a small release made available each year, aficionados were left dreaming for more from the spectacular collaboration.Pappy Van Winkle Tradition’s blend consists of premium aged Nicaraguan and Dominican tobaccos bound by an Indonesian binder. The cigars are finished with a rich dark Ecuadoran Habano Oscuro wrapper. The result is a well-rounded cigar with a sense of sophistication and a wonderful spice note that compliments the cocoa and nuttiness of the tobacco, with classic bourbon smokiness throughout the cigar.The Pappy Van Winkle Tradition has been praised for its flavorful and balanced medium-bodied strength. The history of Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery is similar to the history of traditional cigar companies. The Van Winkle family has been in the distillery business for several generations. They attribute their success to their longstanding philosophy of putting product before profit, which was what Pappy Van Winkle emphasized.

Drew Estate is the largest and most renowned manufacturer of infused cigars. Since 1998, the innovative brand has made it their mission to establish the “Rebirth of Cigars”.  Willy Herrera became the master blender for Drew Estate in 2014. Before Herrera got the job, he created three blends that won over the Drew Estates team, one of which being the Pappy Van Winkle Tradition blend.

Julian Van Winkle III, the owner of Old Rip Van Winkle, was invited to the Drew Estate factory and gifted a box of cigars. The cigars featured white bands which said: “To my friend Julian”. Julian was hooked and soon the entire Van Winkle family visited the factory and the partnership between Old Rip Van Winkle and Drew Estate was formed. Julian enjoyed the blend so much that it was used for the Pappy Van Winkle smoke.

These cigars are made for aficionado’s who enjoy the exclusive lifestyle. The cigars have a limited yearly release around the same time of the Old Rip Van Winkle bourbon lottery.
